Disabled Access
The school welcomes pupils, parents and visitors with disabilities. We endeavour to ensure that disabled pupils are fully integrated into the life of the school. Within the limitations of financial constraints we will provide facilities and resources for children with specific physical needs so they can join in the full range of educational and social activities.
We have the following facilities available for pupils, parents or visitors with disabilities:
- Ramped areas for wheelchair access as required
- Toilets on each level equipped for wheelchair access
- Lift from ground floor to all other floors
- Access to the car park to two disabled parking spaces where required
The Governing Body of Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Primary School has a nominated governor who liaises with the school’s Inclusion Leader.
Complying with Public Sector Equality Duty
At Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Primary School, we do not discriminate against pupils with special educational needs for any reason relating to their specific ability.
'Reasonable adjustments'
The school seeks to make itself as accessible as it can possibly be to pupils with physical disabilities.
The school always aims to provide optimum access to the curriculum for pupils with special educational needs or physical disabilities.
We seek to look at the best way in which to help pupils access their learning in all areas and ensure that they have full access to a vibrant and engaging curriculum. We also seek to make any appropriate modifications to the physical environment of the school in order to ensure that all pupils are able to take part in all areas of learning.
If your child cannot attend school for medical reasons
If your child cannot go to school because of medical needs or health problems, the Local Authority will be able to provide advice and guidance on how the needs of your child may be best met.
LBTH information on transport for pupils with special educational needs
Children, Schools and Families Directorate provides transport for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) to both day and residential schools in Tower Hamlets and elsewhere.
All of our police-checked drivers and passenger assistants have been trained to greet passengers politely and ensure that they travel in comfort and safety.
Our SEN transport operates to scheduled times and arrives at the collection and drop off point at these times, subject to traffic conditions. We advise parents/carers of their child’s transport arrangements (pick up and drop off times) before the journey starts.
Our multi-lingual brochure contains details of transport services available to children with special educational needs when travelling from home to school, as well as eligibility guidelines. The brochure also contains information about:
- The law
- The decision making process
- The special education needs code of practice
- Transport arrangements
- The transport provider
- The standards of the transport unit
- The parent’s responsibilities
- How to complain or make suggestions
- How to get in touch
