On Friday the 17th of June, Our Lady and St Josephs were represented by 13 students at the LBTH swimming gala. Competing against 25 other schools from across the borough in freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly and relay events, our school can be extremely proud of our children’s efforts. We had several swimmers showing some real speed in the water and being able to win their heats, unfortunately narrowly missing out on a qualifying time to make the final. Despite some children missing out on the finals, we had 3 who did achieve a fast enough time to make their finals. Amelie and Paul in back stroke and Elsa in breast stroke. Elsa and Paul both finishing 4th and extremely close to snatching a bronze medal in 3rd place, but our major success story was Amelie, who blew the competition away and came away with a gold medal, winning by a clear distance. Amelie was awarded her gold medal by London 2012 teamGB olympian, and former Holy Family pupil, Perri Shakes-Drayton.
Our entire school can be proud of what our swim team achieved. Congratulations to Oliver, Karolina, Aaron, Ebony, Cape, Bailey, Josie, Mark, Nicole, Khai, Elsa, Paul and Amelie.
