Today Year 3 are making posters to remind children to bring in any unwanted or old toys to donate to Sister Christine’s warm hubs!

This morning Year 5 have been continuing their research and planning for their letters to Rishi Sunak. We watched a video from a Sky news report that featured Emdad Rahman and some of the work he does for the elderly community in Tower Hamlets. We shared questions we would like to ask him when he comes to visit the school tomorrow.
“I think that the elderly should be treated with more dignity because they cannot afford all of the heating resources that they need. Jesus wants us to look after old people because he said treat others the way you would like to be treated and when I’m old I want to be warm.” Prince, Jonah Class.
The Chaplaincy Team planned and delivered an amazing assembly about their mission this half term: Dignity.
They helped us learn what the mission is, why it is important and how we can all contribute.

Watch out… Year Five are on a mission! After discussing the need for Sister Christine’s warm hubs; Year 5 have decided to write to Rishi Sunak, requesting more help for the elderly when heating their homes. We discussed how we can better treat the elderly in our community with dignity and actions we believe the government need to make in order to do so. Well done Year 5!
This morning we have started our new CST topic of dignity. I had some great discussion and debate with our fabulous Year Six’s when I asked the question “should everybody be treated with dignity?” We then researched where we can find examples of dignity within the four sources of revelation.
While volunteering this morning at the St Matthias Community Centre, the Chaplaincy Team came up with a mission and need your help.
Over the next 2 weeks, we would like you to donate dinner plates and strong plastic shopping bags to the front office and we will give them to Sister Chris and Neighbours in Poplar to help them with their dinners for the vulnerable in our community and the food bank. There mission is to feed 400 people on Christmas day so we would love to donate that many plates.

This morning the Chaplaincy Team went to the St Matthias to volunteer with Neighbours in Poplar. We helped in a range of ways and discovered that the work Sister Chris and Neighbours in Poplar do for the community really and truly is inspiring and we were blown away to hear all of their stories. We wrote birthday cards with Miss Adams. Sister Chris told us that these are incredibly important. One 92 year old man in the community reported to Sister that the birthday card he received from Sister Chris was the only birthday card he had received that year and was extremely grateful. We also helped to peel and chop vegetables for the meals that will be delivered. To date, NIP have made over 30,000 meals for the community and try their very best to deliver the home cooked meals on a plate rather than in plastic container. They also aim to have the food delivered within an hour of making it every Wednesday and Sunday. We also helped to bag up food and toiletries for the Mini Foodbank that takes place every Thursday in the St Matthias Community Centre.
Finally, while we were in St Matthias, Lord Michael Cashman made a speech about Sister chris and her Life Time Achievement Award. We were very proud of Sister Chris and all the work that she does to help and support everyone in our school and local community.
