The Life Cycle of a Butterfly

This week we continued to observe our growing caterpillars! They have been eating lots of food and have grown bigger and fatter! They have changed colour and they are furry!

In maths we have been learning all about the number 7. We practised making seven using our fingers and writing the numeral. We learned the rhyme; Across the sky and down from heaven that’s the way we make a seven! We practised counting 7 counters from a larger group making sure we say one number name for each object.  We have also been learning about patterns. We practised making a two colour pattern by colouring caterpillars. We also practised extending and creating an ABAB pattern using 2D shapes and colours! Making sure we named the shapes and colours to help us to hear the repeating pattern.

Our big book this week was; ‘I went walking’. A story about a little boy who goes walking and meets farm animals along the way. We had lots of fun making the animal sounds and predicting which animal he would meet next. Our High Frequency words this week are ‘me’ and ‘at’. The children were very good at reading these words and finding them in the story.

In phonics we learned the letter ‘n’ sound. We thought of friends in our class whose name starts with the ‘n’ letter sound, and looked for objects in our classroom. We thought of; night, net, nap, nappy, nose, no. Can you think of any others? We also practised oral blending and segmenting of simple CVC words talking in sound talk. You can play this game at home:

In RE we have been learning about Our Church. We talked about how the parish church is a special place where we meet our friends and how Sunday is a special time to go. We looked at pictures of different churches, talked about some of the prayers that are said in church and created our own individual prayers.
