Carnival – End of black History Month

We have had another busy week in Nursery as the children were getting busy for Carnival.  We read the story ‘Nini at Carnival’ and watched carnivals from around the world.

The children were able to have carnival around the outside area, just before the rain started again.  The children enjoyed singing ‘Kye,Kye Kule’ with their shakers.

Black History Month – So Much

This week we have been reading the story of ‘So Much’ and learning about family life from the Caribbean. We listen to some Caribbean music and talk about the instruments we could hear.

We have also been preparing for our carnival by making shakers from milk bottles and necklaces from pasta.

Beginnings – Baptism

This half term we have been learning about Beginnings of church life. We talk about ourselves and what makes us special. We looked at candles and how they represented the Light of God. We looked at Baptism and being introduced to the Church. We role played what was involved in a Baptism and the people involved. We talked about being part of different families: home family, school family and Church/God family.

Blue week

This week in Nursery we have been learning about the colour blue. We made collages and painting using Blue. The children enjoyed using blue crayons and pencils adding to their collage.

This week book is Handa’s surprise. We looked at the country of Africa and the different fruits. Ask your children to tell you the story of what happened to Handa’s fruit.

Yellow week

This week in Nursery, we have been busy exploring the colour Yellow. We created our own yellow picture either with paint on different materials.

We have also been reading the story of Elmer as a start to Black History month. We talked about why he is different and what makes us all special. Each week we will also look at a different learning skill – this week is Fantastic Focus. Encourage your child to join in and concentrate on what they are doing.
