Chick Eggs!

This week in Nursery we welcomed some new arrivals… five chick eggs! They arrived in an incubator and we observed their changes and development each day. We were lucky to see all five of the chicks hatch! We watched and waited as they used their beaks to peck tiny holes in their shells until all the shell came away. After their bodies had dried and become fluffy, we transferred them to their new home and gave them food and water. We are looking forward to watching them grow and holding them when they are bigger and stronger.

In Maths we have been measuring length. We measured objects using non-standard measures such as different length snakes and even our own feet! Then we counted the unifix cubes and compared the lengths using the language of long, longer, longest, short, shorter and shortest. We also practised our number recognition and counting skills.

In Literacy, our big book of the week was ‘Big Feet’. A story about some mysterious footprints! The children enjoyed making predictions about the story and reading the two new high frequency words; ‘it’ and ‘is’.

In Phonics, we learnt the ‘m’ letter sound. We thought of friends in our class whose name starts with this sound and then put our friends in our silly soup! We thought of; mug, magnet, milk, magnifying glass, minibeast. Can you think of any others? Then we bounced the initial sound and blended the sounds together.

In RE to celebrate the month of Mary, we have been learning Mary’s prayer the Hail Mary. We coloured in flowers to crown Mary with a wreath and honour her as the Mother of God.
