The Three Little Pigs

In Literacy we are looking at the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Here is an example of some fantastic story writing from Year 1. Next week we’ll be making our own houses for the three little pigs out of spaghetti, lolly sticks and lego blocks.. let’s see which is the strongest!

RE Homework Projects

In RE we are learning about the Beatitudes. These are the “blessed sayings” that come from the opening verses of the famous Sermon on the Mount delivered by Jesus and recorded in Matthew 5:3-12.

Each beatitude depicts the ideal heart of a citizen of God’s kingdom. Jesus was saying “divinely happy and fortunate are those who possess these inward qualities.” Thank you so much to the children who brought in their beautiful homework projects on the Beatitudes.

Kings and Queens’ Castles

In Topic we are learning about Kings and queens from the past. On Friday, we were so excited to learn about the castles that they live in!

We discussed the key features of castles, such as the moat, battlements, arrow slit windows and turrets. We loved acting out being a guard on the top of the castle surveying our surroundings.. We learnt that castles often have high walls and sit on a hill to prevent enemy invasion…

Then we designed our own castles that would protect us from enemy invasion if we were monarchs and built them using building blocks.

Kings and Queens

We have started our really exciting new topic Kings and Queens. We will be learning about different Kings and Queens, the castles they live in and capital cities. We will write a letter to the King at the end of the topic!

We are learning about all the Monarchs from the past and the exciting stories about them. In golden time today we pretended that we were Kings and Queens for the day. We drew pictures and decorated our own crowns. It was so much fun and we all loved sharing what we would change if we were King or Queen!

The Three Little Pigs

In Year 1 we have started our new story for this half term, ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have been learning about the structure of stories, through story mapping, retelling and acting out the story. It is important for us to learn to sequence events so that we become confident storytellers and writers ourselves! We are learning some new key vocabulary such as straw, sticks, wood, bricks, wolf, pot and chimney.

Literacy in Year 1 – The Little Red Hen

In Literacy we have been writing about the Little Red Hen.

Here is an example of some fantastic handwriting in Year 1! As a class we discussed what we liked about this piece of work, in particular we noticed there were capital letters, full stops, one verb and some adjectives. The children have been working in partners to talk through their sentences and gather ideas.

Next week we will be learning about farms and making our own farm animals out of playdough. This is to inspire us for when we write our innovated stories the following week!

Special Visit to Ezra Class

On Friday we were visited by the Leyton Orient Trust who ran an accessible sports lesson.

We were so lucky to develop our coordination, football and general P.E. skills with these amazing coaches. We also practiced new ones from them, such as passing and receiving a ball, dribbling and ball control.

Remembrance Day

Today we were celebrating Remembrance Day at school. On Friday we will have a minute silence to remember all those who fought and lost their lives in the war. We learnt about poppies and their significance and decorated our own.

We enjoyed talking about what we know about the First World War. Please share your knowledge with us at home and we can tell the class what we have learnt.
