# Year 1 Homework – 30.03.2017

Hi Parents and Carers,

Sentences

Your child needs to write a sentence for each of the words relating to the work we have done for our Science topic on The Water Cycle.

Maths

We have been working on solving word problems using division. The children read the problem and circle the numbers. Then they write that it is a division problem, draw the array and write the number sentence. To draw the array, the children use the smaller number for the amount of spots they draw going down (amount of groups) and then divide the remainder of spots into the groups (bigger number). They use the array to find the answer.

We had a wonderful time on our trip to the Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood and learned a lot about toys from the past, and especially about teddy bears from the past and present.

# Museum of Childhood

We had so much fun visiting the Museum of Childhood this week!

We enjoyed hopping on the D6 bus and travelling to Bethnal Green Station. When we arrived at the museum, we started exploring and looked at the displays of toys from the past and present. We really enjoyed looking at all of the toys from the past and talking about the ways in which they were different from our toys today. We were also very excited to see some of the toys we like to play with today.

We then had a special session where we learned all about teddy bears. We saw a teddy bear that was 90 years old, and compared it with teddy bears that we play with today, such as Paddington bear, Care Bears, Kung Fu Panda and Winnie the Pooh. We also made a teddy bear timeline by placing the teddy bears in order from oldest to newest. We ended the session by making cards with pictures of the Care Bears on the front.

Finally, we had our packed lunches together as a class. Yummy!

What a wonderful trip!

# St Patrick’s Day!

Year 1 looked absolutely fantastic dressed in green for St Patrick’s Day. We made gorgeous green shamrock head bands to wear to our assembly and even had our very own Irish dancing concert in class. We watched a lot of Riverdance videos as well as listening to the story of St Patrick and how he became the patron Saint of Ireland.

Everyone had a super day, as you can see from our pictures!

# Spring Walk!

On Tuesday, 7th March, all of Year 1 went on a Spring walk around our local area. We kept our eyes peeled for anything associated with Spring such as daffodils, baby animals and buds. We managed to see some of these things along our way. Everyone was really well behaved and we enjoyed being detectives for the afternoon.

# World Book Day in Year 1!

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day in OLSJ. It was amazing and all the children made such a huge effort to dress as their favourite character from a book. We had lots of interesting and exciting costumes such as Alice in Wonderland, Paddington Bear and Mary Poppins. We even had the privilege of two Year 6 teachers, Miss Lynch and Miss Cairns, coming to read to both Year 1 classes.

Take a look at our wonderful costumes!
