Literacy in Year 1 – The Little Red Hen

In Literacy we have been writing about the Little Red Hen.

Here is an example of some fantastic handwriting in Year 1! As a class we discussed what we liked about this piece of work, in particular we noticed there were capital letters, full stops, one verb and some adjectives. The children have been working in partners to talk through their sentences and gather ideas.

Next week we will be learning about farms and making our own farm animals out of playdough. This is to inspire us for when we write our innovated stories the following week!

Special Visit to Ezra Class

On Friday we were visited by the Leyton Orient Trust who ran an accessible sports lesson.

We were so lucky to develop our coordination, football and general P.E. skills with these amazing coaches. We also practiced new ones from them, such as passing and receiving a ball, dribbling and ball control.

Remembrance Day

Today we were celebrating Remembrance Day at school. On Friday we will have a minute silence to remember all those who fought and lost their lives in the war. We learnt about poppies and their significance and decorated our own.

We enjoyed talking about what we know about the First World War. Please share your knowledge with us at home and we can tell the class what we have learnt.

The Little Red Hen Year 1

In Literacy we have started our new story. We were lucky enough to be visited by the Little Red Hen who had run away from her farm. We practiced forming questions to ask the Little Red Hen. Then we spoke about all of the emotions she might have felt when her friends didn’t help. We thought of these words all by ourselves!

Challenge : Use one of our emotion words at home with your parents…!

Playground monitors in Year 1

Yesterday we elected three playground monitors in Year 1. They will have an important role during break and lunchtimes, making sure that children are being kind, safe and inclusive.

After break times, they will meet to discuss and report positive behaviour in the playground to staff and reward those children who were showing positive behaviour.

The children reported some really interesting feedback today, thank you very much!
