With Christ at our centre, we love, listen and learn

Welcome to Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Primary School; a two form entry primary school located in the heart of Poplar, London.

Our Lady & St Joseph is a relatively new school, opening its doors for the first time in September 2014. Although our school itself is new, there has been Catholic education on our site at Wade’s Place for the past 200 years (1816 – 2016)

Our school was formed following the amalgamation of two single form entry schools, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Poplar, and Our Lady Catholic Primary School, Limehouse.

As a Catholic School Community we have very close ties with both St Mary & St Joseph Parish and Our Lady Immaculate & St Frederick’s Parish. The vast majority of our pupils come from these parishes.

Our commitment to developing the Catholic ethos of the school is absolute and Christ is at the centre of all we do. The Gospel Values are at the heart of our community and we use them to guide us on our journey through life.

What are the Gospel Values?

(Excerpt from “Christ at the Centre”)

Whilst not definitive, the Gospel values based on the Beatitudes may be summarized as follows:

Gospel Values

Beatitude

Faithfulness & Integrity

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven”

Dignity & Compassion

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”

Humility & Gentleness

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”

Truth & Justice

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be satisfied”

Forgiveness & Mercy

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”

Purity & Holiness

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God”

Tolerance & Peace

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children on God”

Service & Sacrifice

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of slander against you because of me.

Be glad and rejoice for your reward is great in heaven; they persecuted the prophets before you in the very same way”
