“The Three Billy Goats Gruff” week in Nursery 24.1.22

This week we have been very busy learning about the The Three Billy Goats Gruff book; the children found the troll very funny and they said he should forever stay in the water to leave the goats in peace 🙂

The number of this week was number nine, so we have learnt how to count, recognise and write it… good work everyone! We are also introducing a mark of the week, and this week’s mark was “zigzag”: all the children had a go at cutting through the zigzag lines.

In Phonics, we have introduce the letter “s”, learning the name of the letter and its sound. We have learnt the “s” song, found words starting with it and discovered all the “s” letters we have in the classroom.

In shared reading, the children have learnt two more words : and & to. They have been doing very well at recognising and matching them.

Thank you Parents for supporting your child at home memorizing the High Frecuency words, encouraging your child to use scissors and learning 1-10 numbers. Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

“Goldilocks and The Three Bears” week in Nursery 17.01.22

We have been reading the “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” story, and learning about the importance of listening to our parent’s instructions; the children have also learnt lots of mathematical vocabulary as “massive, big, medium, small, tiny” along with the story. In Maths, we focused on number 8 and the children were very good at building towers with eight blocks and they had a go at writing the number 8, well done! We also would like the children to know how to use scissors properly, so this week we have started to learn cutting skills. In our shared reading/writing, we have learnt “the” and “a” high frequency words and everyone is doing great at memorising them. We feel very proud of how well the children are working in school!

“Winter” in Nursery

We have had a lovely first whole week in Nursery! The topic we are learning about is Winter and the children have been painting different things we see in this good season, as snow, winter hats, white trees, clouds,… We have also explored winter animals: where they live, what they eat… For Maths, we introduced the number 7 and we had a go at writing it and counting up to 7 objects; we have also learnt new mathematical words: “empty”, “almost empty”, “full” and “almost full” as we explored capacity! In Phonics, the children are starting to recognise the first sounds in words and memorise “high frequency” words. We are all very proud of their hard work 🙂

Happy New Year in Nursery :)

The children settled back into routines well this week and they enjoyed indoor and outdoor activities and play! They were very excited to tell us their holiday news and they painted wonderful pictures! We introduced the children to shared reading this week. We read ‘Six in a Bed’ and got to know the characters in the story 🙂 In Maths we explored the number 6!
