The Very Hungry Caterpillar

With excitement this week, our caterpillars arrived, as we read the story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is linked to our topic on life cycles. We learned about the four different stages of a butterfly’s life cycle and that these stages are called metamorphosis, which means change.

In RE, we talked about how Jesus Ascended to Heaven to sit on the right-hand side of God. We recalled the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit and talked about how we still have the Holy Spirit with us. We learned that Jesus’s disciples then spread the word of God. We showed the different emotions as our friend, Jesus goes to heaven, drew and painted pictures of Jesus’ Ascension.

In phonics, we introduced the ‘i’ sound, we looked for different objects that start with the ‘i’ letter sound around the classroom and made ‘Silly Soup’ with these objects. We continued with alliteration and introduced the children to oral blending and segmenting. Please play this game at home with your child:

Have a lovely weekend.

The Story of Pentecost

This week in Nursery the children were very excited to come back to school and share their Easter holiday news!

In maths we have been practising number recognition, counting and forming numerals. We also recapped our learning on 2D shapes; naming shapes and describing their properties.

In RE we learnt about the story of Pentecost, when Jesus went back to His Father. We learnt that although Jesus is in heaven, we have the Holy Spirit to look after us. We sequenced the story and then made head bands with flames on them.

In shared reading we read the big book ‘The Toys’ Party’. We remembered our reading strategies and talked about the differences between the pictures and the words. We learnt two new high frequency words ‘in’ and ‘put’. We tried to find these words in the book and match them together. Please practise reading these words at home and using them in a sentence.

In phonics we revised all of the sounds we have learnt so far; ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’ and ‘p’, and tried to sort objects that start with the same sound. We also practised our speaking and listening skills. Have a look at our photographs!

We wish you all a lovely weekend.
