PSHCE in Malachi

Big Question:

Today, we considered the following dilemma, “Would you rather be bald or have blue teeth?”  During feedback, we discovered that we had a wide range of views on the topic.  Some students pointed out that many famous men are bald, and that baldness can be disguised with a wig.  Others opined that there are worse things in life than having blue teeth, such as having no teeth at all.  The class concluded by sharing ideas for worse problems than baldness and blue teeth, thus reflecting on what it must be like to live with a physical handicap.

Conflict Resolution:

Today, we had a very interesting discussion for PSHE about conflict resolution.  This means finding the best way to solve people’s problems and arguments.

The class considered interesting dilemmas such as “Another kid on the playground says your shirt is ugly” or “Your friend screams at you in the hallway”.  Many students pointed out that it is helpful to stay calm, even when you are upset by someone else’s words.  In answer to the first dilemma, for example, Aaron pointed out that OLSJ students wear a uniform, so everyone’s shirt looks the same.  Rubie-Rose raised a very important point in answer to the second dilemma.  She announced that violence is never the answer, which sits nicely with our Gospel value of “Tolerance and Peace”.

Interestingly, no one in the class suggested talking to a teacher and asking for help!

Art- The Blitz in London

This afternoon, children in Year 6 observed artwork focused on the London skyline during the Blitz. We then sketched and created our own amazing versions in our art books. We will continue to create different art work related to the London skyline and the Blitz for the rest of the half term.
