Today in R.E. we learnt about Diwali. Diwali is a festival of light, which is in
honour of the Goddess Lakshmi. We learnt that during Diwali, Goddess
Lakshmi is believed to visit homes that are well lit; so families decorate
their homes with Rangoli patterns. The Rangoli patterns are created on
doorsteps to welcome everybody. For this celebration people wear their best clothes or buy new ones, children are given presents and New Year greetings are exchanged through visits or Diwali cards. In our lesson, we designed our own Rangoli patterns using colouring pencils and felt tips.
