Year 4 have been learning about Warning Stories. In today’s lesson, the children created their own 3,4,3,4 poems based on a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Children were able to follow the structure of a 3,4,3,4 poem to summarise how their character did not follow their warning, resulting in a consequence.

The children came up with some fantastic poems and used actions to support their dramatisation. Here is our class 3,4,3,4:

The Beatitudes!

In today’s lesson, Year 4 made links between the Beatitudes in Scripture and what they mean to us in Human Experience. We focused on the following Beatitudes:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’

The class linked the Beatitudes to the school’s Gospel Values; described what each Beatitude meant and then provided examples of how they demonstrate each Beatitude in their everyday lives.

Here are some examples of our learning:

Remembrance Day

This week we talked about Remembrance Day and why it’s so important. For our PSHCE lesson, we had a discussion about the importance of commemorating those who have sacrificed for others and decorated our own poppies. Some children wanted to take them home to have a daily reminder whilst some of them were put on our classroom display!

We will be observing a 2 minutes’ silence at 11am on Friday the 11th.

Non chronological reports

This week, we have been exploring and learning about language features in a non chronological report. As a class, we designed story maps about the magnificent Anglo Saxon artefacts, discovered at Sutton Hoo by Basil Brown. Here is a wonderful example of our story maps by Nevaeh!

All Saints’ Day

All Saints’ Day is the 1st of November, and in our R.E lesson today we looked at three famous saints: Saint Valentine, Saint Nicholas and Saint John the Baptist. We created our own drama pieces to detail the life of these three saints…

Month of the Rosary

Year 4 visited Mary’s Garden to mark the Holy Month of the Rosary. We took along with us our brand new rosary beads and together prayed a decade of the rosary. We also thought about what current world events we could pray for going forward into autumn.

Autumn 2- Homework

AT2 Question- to be completed on the RE Blog the first and last week of term

Why is celebrating the birth of Jesus important?

RE Homework Project

Create your own Nativity scene based on Matthew’s version of the Nativity Story. You can design this in the art form of your choice, for example 2d or 3d.

This needs to be handed in by Tuesday, 8th November at the latest.

Art

This week for art, we practiced weaving using wool and cardboard. It was a bit tricky at first but eventually we got the hang of it and became experts 🙂

Exploring anti-bullying!

This week, we watched a video discussing what bullying is? We linked this to feelings and recorded how we would feel if we were bullied. Some of us had ideas on how we can prevent bullying if we see it at school. Others highlighted on ways to feel more confident and to ‘love yourself’ even if people are ‘bad’. However, we all agreed we must ‘tell an adult’ or a friend so they can help us and stop bullies from hurting others.
