Year 4 School Trip to The Crystal 21.11.17

This week, Year 4 went on a School trip to The Crystal. We learned all about sustainable living and how to be eco-friendly. The Crystal is one of the most sustainable buildings in the world. It collects rainwater and once it has been treated, it is reused throughout the building. How amazing is that! We got to watch a short film on what cities will look like and how they will function in the future. It was really interesting. We also used our bodies to generate kinetic energy. Hopefully in the future, this kind of energy will be harvested in busy places such as football arenas and tube and train stations. Here are some photos from our trip.

Then we added milk powder and poured the mixture into a tin to set. We didn’t like the smell when we were making it but it turned out to be delicious! Rosary for the Month of Mary

As it is the month of Mary, Year 4 spent some time in the Prayer Garden On Thursday 12th October. Before we went to the Prayer Garden, we learned about the Rosary, and in particular the Luminous Mysteries, which are only said on a Thursday. We found out that the Luminous Mysteries are the mysteries of light. There are five: The Baptism of Jesus, The Wedding at Cana, The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, The Transfiguration and The Institution of the Eucharist. We said a special prayer for each of the luminous mysteries before praying a decade of the rosary together as a year group. It was nice to take time from our busy days to reflect and pray to Our Lady.

Trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum

Year 4 went on a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum on 10th October to learn more about the Anglo Saxons. We set off early in the morning, the tube took a long time to get there but we had lots of fun travelling. When we arrived we got to look around the museum. We were amazed at how old some of the artefacts were. We were looking for objects from the Anglo Saxon era, so from around 400 – 1066 AD. There were computers in the museum to help us find what we were looking for. We even found a room where we could dress up in Anglo Saxon clothing. A lady from the museum held a workshop for us to tell us more about the Anglo Saxons. She showed us a timeline which really helped us to visualise just how long ago the Anglo Saxons lived. We got to learn about 3 different artefacts from that era. First was a beautiful brooch which would have been used to pin clothing together. We found out that the Anglo Saxons traded with many people to get different materials to make these brooches and we had the opportunity to design our own. Next we looked at a religious carving of a cross. It had Christian symbols on one side and pagan symbols on the other as the Anglo Saxons were pagans first before being converted to Christianity. The final piece was another cross but it was much smaller. We found out that inside it was a human finger! Archeologists think it may have been a saints finger which would make the cross much more valuable and holy. We had lunch in the museum and got to look around some more before we made our way back to school. The tube home was busy and we were all very tired. Luckily, some of us got seats and we went for a nap. We had so much fun and learned a lot too!

Here are some pictures of our trip.
