Year 1 Ezra Visits the Prayer Garden

On Tuesday, Ezra class visited the Prayer Garden and had a wonderful time honouring Mary and celebrating the start of the month of Mary.

We started by saying the Hail Mary together as a class.

Then three children in the class led the Daily Act of Worship for the rest of the class. We sat in a circle, then our teacher read to us from the Catholic Children’s Bible. She read a passage from Luke where the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary and tells her she would have a baby who would be God’s son, and that she should call him Jesus. We then reflected on this passage, saying a quiet prayer to God in our hearts. Finally, we heard that our mission for the week was to do something helpful at home.

After that, a few of the children in the class read their prayers from the prayer book to the rest of the class.

We ended our special time in the Prayer Garden by singing the Ave Maria together as a class.

It was such a special experience and we can’t wait to visit the garden again!

Easter Bonnet Parade

The last day of last term was very exciting, because we brought our homemade Easter bonnets to school and wore them in our Easter bonnet parade. The children and their families worked very hard on their bonnets, and they were all amazing! When everyone put their bonnets on, it was so lovely to see all of the different colours, and the chicks, flowers, crosses and other decorations.

The Year 1 and Year 2 classes all gathered outside with their bonnets and every child had a turn to walk in front of the other children and show off their beautiful bonnet. We had so much fun cheering for each other and it was so exciting!

Your child needs to write a sentence for each of the words relating to the work we have done for our Science topic on The Water Cycle.

Maths

We have been working on solving word problems using division. The children read the problem and circle the numbers. Then they write that it is a division problem, draw the array and write the number sentence. To draw the array, the children use the smaller number for the amount of spots they draw going down (amount of groups) and then divide the remainder of spots into the groups (bigger number). They use the array to find the answer.

Museum of Childhood

We had so much fun visiting the Museum of Childhood this week!

We enjoyed hopping on the D6 bus and travelling to Bethnal Green Station. When we arrived at the museum, we started exploring and looked at the displays of toys from the past and present. We really enjoyed looking at all of the toys from the past and talking about the ways in which they were different from our toys today. We were also very excited to see some of the toys we like to play with today.

We then had a special session where we learned all about teddy bears. We saw a teddy bear that was 90 years old, and compared it with teddy bears that we play with today, such as Paddington bear, Care Bears, Kung Fu Panda and Winnie the Pooh. We also made a teddy bear timeline by placing the teddy bears in order from oldest to newest. We ended the session by making cards with pictures of the Care Bears on the front.

Finally, we had our packed lunches together as a class. Yummy!

What a wonderful trip!

To do this, they look at the first number in the equation to determine how many groups there will be, and at the second number to determine how many spots there will be in each group, e.g. In the equation 2 x 3 = 6 there will be 2 groups (2 lines) with 3 spots in each.
