This week in Reception…
Phonics: This week we have continued to practise rhyming, initial sounds, blending and segmenting. At home you can practise segmenting a word for your child e.g. ‘c-a-t’ and your child can practise blending the sounds together to make the word ‘cat’.
Maths: The numbers of the week are 3 and 4. We have been practising writing the numbers and counting out 3 or 4 objects. We have also been practising counting to 5 and 10.
Please can you collect conkers/leaves for our autumn learning. We will explore these items in class.
Please could you also email photos of your child’s Baptism to reception@olsj.co.uk. We will share these in our RE lesson.

Reading booksEvery child has received their Reading Explorer bags. Inside each bag there are 3 books. One is a story book for you to read to your child, another is a picture book for your child to talk about what they see. The third is a simple reading book which you can look at with your child and spot our words of the week (I, and, the). You can also practise identifying the first sounds of the words.
Inside the blue reading explorer book your child can draw a picture related to one of the stories. You can also leave comments at the back about how your child is finding the reading (we will also leave a comment when we read with your child).
Your child should bring their reading bag back once a week. You will find your child’s specific date inside the blue reading explorer book.
