Chinese New Year

This week in Reception we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We have had a fun packed time finding out what it is and how it is celebrated. We took part in several activities such as; making lanterns and dragons, creating our own Chinese takeaway menus and even prepared and cooked a delicious noodle soup! We were treated to a beautiful Chinese Lion dance performance, and got to ask the performers questions about their dance.

Frozen Arctic Animals!

This week we arrived at school to find Arctic animals frozen in ice! We explored the textures with our hands and watched the changes throughout the day. We talked about what we could see and thought about how we could get the animals out of the ice. It was very cold and slippery to touch! We watched the ice melt and then we wrote about what happened.IMG_4575 IMG_4578 IMG_4580 IMG_4581

Arctic snow magic potions!

This week we have had lots of fun using different materials to make a magic snow potion for our topic; ‘Arctic Animals’. First we thought about what ingredients to use, then we wrote them in a list and after that we created our potions! We used; ‘snow’, glitter, glue and string and worked hard using our phonic knowledge to support our writing. We had so much fun making our potions in our very own indoor winter wonderland!

We also enjoyed a special assembly on Road Safety. We learnt about the different road crossings and how to always be safe by; stopping, looking, listening and thinking when crossing a road.
