While volunteering this morning at the St Matthias Community Centre, the Chaplaincy Team came up with a mission and need your help.

Over the next 2 weeks, we would like you to donate dinner plates and strong plastic shopping bags to the front office and we will give them to Sister Chris and Neighbours in Poplar to help them with their dinners for the vulnerable in our community and the food bank. There mission is to feed 400 people on Christmas day so we would love to donate that many plates.

This morning the Chaplaincy Team went to the St Matthias to volunteer with Neighbours in Poplar. We helped in a range of ways and discovered that the work Sister Chris and Neighbours in Poplar do for the community really and truly is inspiring and we were blown away to hear all of their stories. We wrote birthday cards with Miss Adams. Sister Chris told us that these are incredibly important. One 92 year old man in the community reported to Sister that the birthday card he received from Sister Chris was the only birthday card he had received that year and was extremely grateful. We also helped to peel and chop vegetables for the meals that will be delivered. To date, NIP have made over 30,000 meals for the community and try their very best to deliver the home cooked meals on a plate rather than in plastic container. They also aim to have the food delivered within an hour of making it every Wednesday and Sunday. We also helped to bag up food and toiletries for the Mini Foodbank that takes place every Thursday in the St Matthias Community Centre.

Finally, while we were in St Matthias, Lord Michael Cashman made a speech about Sister chris and her Life Time Achievement Award. We were very proud of Sister Chris and all the work that she does to help and support everyone in our school and local community.
