Bon Voyage Butterflies!

This week in Nursery we released our beautiful monarch butterflies in Mary’s garden. We helped the butterflies out of the net and were lucky enough to get a really close look! We sang our caterpillar song, said a prayer and wished them well on their adventures.

In Maths, we practised our counting skills and number recognition. We also learned about 3D shapes. We named the shapes, talked about their properties and looked for 3D shapes in our environment. We learnt about; cylinders, cubes, cuboids and spheres. We talked about their faces and named the 2D shapes we could see.

In Phonics, we recapped all of the letter sounds we have learnt so far. We also practised blending simple words and feeding them to Metal Mike! The children are getting very good at blending sounds together.

We were very lucky to have a visit from Sister Christine. She spoke to us about caring for others and told us about the homeless families in our local community. She reminded us to thank God for everything we have in our lives and asked us to be ‘caring angels’, and care for others.

Finally, St Mary’s class visited our local parish, St Mary and St Joseph church. We met Father Andrew and asked him questions about the church. He talked about the building and what people do at church. Then we walked around and saw the side alters; where people light candles and say prayers. We saw a statue of Mother Mary where there were blue candles, and said the Hail Mary prayer. We also saw a statue of Joseph holding baby Jesus and noticed the red candles. Thank you to all the parent helpers who volunteered their time and helped keep the children safe. We are so grateful for your support.

We wish you all a great half term break!
