Year six today were lucky enough to have a talk from Helena, a journalist and editor of the Sainsbury’s Magazine, as part of our Career’s Week. Year six were given some insider tips about the world of journalism, investigation and the importance of evidence. We talked about the importance of researching facts and evidence, understanding your demographics and how to make a story interesting and exciting. As an editor Helena spoke about how she selects the content and tone of her magazine to keep it fresh and engaging. In a Q&A session the year group got the chance to excitedly quiz Helena about a range of topics: libel, following your passions, the most important skills and qualities of a journalist and the different roles in magazine production. The students and the school greatly appreciated the visit and the opportunity to learn so much.
