This week in Jonah class, we have been looking at long multiplication (which can be quite tricky to understand at first).
By way of deepening our understanding of the process, we drew on our desks and used place value counters to help us to understand each step.
In particular, this practical lesson really helped us to understand why we use our place holder. We could see that every time we multiplied by a multiple of 10, there were never any 1s left in the 1s column.
Not only did we have a lot of fun during this lesson but the children also now feel a lot more confident with long multiplication! 🙂
